You know what Passion is but, how important is Passion? And how exactly does it differ from your occupation, hobby and entire love life? This showed me passion in a whole other level that's for sure.
First of all, what a cute little epilogue! I was all for it! The main thing that really drew me in on reading it was the fact that each character has a heavy story that I could not wait to discover. I love mysterious H and h's, it never fails to intrigue me every time the blurb is far from the story when I actually start reading.
“But I’m hooked on him, not because of what he is or how much he can spoil me. It’s because of who he is. Who I am when I’m with him. Who we are together.”
The best part for me is how this showed me some parts of how gambling works. I am not really the kind of girl who jumps into the Vegas scene very much and I barely tolerate underground gambling as well so I was overwhelmed with information on how a player thinks and what I found with Cullen, he was remarkably mysterious. Now, I already mentioned in my review of Womanizer that Callan was mysterious but with Cullen, He was three times as mysterious.
I have to hand it to Cullen, the best thing about him is how unapologetically (if this is even a word) he is. Almost every time he speaks it's very well thought out and a hundred, hundred percent on point. Most days I can't even blame Wynn for feeling weak and lustful. Basically, he knows all the right things to say that would get your panties soaked or your feelings exploded. Every time I'm in Wynn's POV and I don't know what responses I expect to get from him, I just find myself reacting, laughing or kicking on my seat.
I wouldn't really call Wynn a hopeless romantic but she somewhat is and Cullen, he was just not that. Romance is another level of definition for him. I'll explain further as to why I think Wynn is only 'somewhat' hopeless romantic later but for now, let me just tell you that this couple... My oh my! The first encounter was literally EVERYTHING for me. I was all for it, I would rate it 10 stars on its own. Also, all throughout the book both characters were very intriguing. Every time with them was intense, like a soft bdsm, if there is such a thing.
Now, for the part where I explain why Wynn is 'somewhat' hopeless romantic, it's because she never fails to gush over Cullen ALL THE TIME. She also never fails to imagine a lot of things. I mean, when you get brokenhearted at least for some time you would have bitter thoughts when it comes to men but not for Wynn. Not for her when obviously, she tries her best to swear them off, but she also likes to hold on to whatever fantasy she has of Cullen.
“I don’t know how to love a gambler. I don’t know if Cullen’s a gambler or a player and if I’m being played.”
“I don’t know how to love a gambler. I don’t know if Cullen’s a gambler or a player and if I’m being played.”
All the while I was reading this, I noticed how Wynn's POV was written sometimes not rationally. Like, I honestly thought at one point she was pathetic and gullible but towards the end I felt really proud of her. I was proud she stood her ground and did what she said she would. She was a strong character, the only problem? She has a lot of moments in weakness and she was guided by her emotions most of the time!
You fall for someone you never really expected to be with. Someone who is obviously not for everyone.
There was definitely a backstory to how Cullen first came interested with Wynn and I just wished there was more of that divulged but all in all it was exactly the book I thought I didn't need but was completely proven wrong. If I didn't find this book deep in my e-shelf, I would've missed out.
Book Overview
A brand new contemporary romance from New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author Katy Evans.
It started as a game.
We flirted. We played. Most importantly—we won.
Then I discovered who he was: Gambler. Famous playboy. Silver-eyed player who never plays to lose.
…And my best friend’s soon-to-be brother in law, Cullen Carmichael.
He needed a good luck charm, I needed a distraction.
So we made a gamble and set off for Vegas—but pretty soon—I was in too deep.
My heart, soul, and body weren't supposed to be part of the deal.
But somewhere between big wins and long nights, my house of cards started to tumble.
What was this devil with those piercing eyes doing to me?
I’d given up on love, but the wicked, all-in Cullen Carmichael was upping the ante and wouldn’t stop until he’d won it all.
*This book contains characters from the Manwhore series but can be read as a complete standalone.
